USC Sumter is located in the heart of the state, about 45 miles east of the capital of Columbia, South Carolina. It is the only campus is the system that began as a Clemson University campus and then later changed to a University of South Carolina campus. USC Sumter became a University campus in 1973 and today has an enrollment of about 1,600 per academic year. USC Sumter confers two-year associate's degrees and offers baccalaureate degree programs in business administration, elementary education, nursing, early childhood education, organizational leadership and interdisciplinary studies through Palmetto College. Graduation with Leadership Distinction

Advancing leadership is an important component of USC's role as the flagship university of South Carolina and its dedication to educating the future leaders of SC, the nation, and the world. USC Sumter had the most Graduation with Leadership Distinction (GLD) students of all the Palmetto College campuses. Students who earn Graduation with Leadership Distinction demonstrate extensive, purposeful engagement beyond the classroom; understanding of course concepts in "real world" settings; and application of learning to make decisions and solve problems.

USC Aiken at Sumter students Lamontreal Giles, Lauren Newman, and Lawrence Preast were inducted as lifetime members of Beta Gamma Sigma. Beta Gamma Sigma is the premier honor society recognizing business excellence. Lifetime members of the Society have earned the right to be considered the "Best in Business."
