USC Sumter Tennis Program Asks the Public to "Hit with the Fire Ants" in a New Fundraiser

by Alethia Hummel

Sumter, SC (04/04/2022) — The University of South Carolina Sumter Tennis Program will host a round robin doubles tennis tournament on Friday, April 8, 2022 at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter. The tournament will begin at 5 pm with a social mixer following the matches. Participants will have the opportunity to team up with athletes from the USC Sumter Tennis teams.

The fee to participate is $50 per player. Players have three ways to participate; play in the tournament and attend the mixer, play only, or attend the mixer only. The fee is the same regardless of which option is chosen. All proceeds will benefit the men's and women's tennis teams at USC Sumter who are currently fundraising to help pay for their travel to the NJCAA Tennis National Championship in May.

"We are excited our men's and women's tennis teams will once again be appearing in the National Championship," said Director of Athletics Adrienne Cataldo. "This is the second appearance for our female athletes and the third for the men. Traveling to the national tournaments will cost thousands and the teams are working hard to raise the money needed to attend such a momentous event."

The tournament is hosted by the Palmetto Tennis Center (PTC). PTC and USC Sumter have a long-standing partnership and over the years Fire Ant Tennis has been honored to call PTC their home court.

"We are very grateful for the Palmetto Tennis Center and all they do for USC Sumter Tennis," said Tennis Head Coach Andrew Bartelmo. PTC is an amazing facility and they continue to make improvements and expand to bring more tennis opportunities to Sumter and the state of South Carolina."
