USC Sumter Baseball to Honor the Medlin Family at February 21 Game

Proceeds to Support Claudia Medlin's Journey with CJD

by Dr. Adrienne Cataldo

Sumter, SC (02/17/2026) — The USC Sumter Baseball program will host USC Union at Riley Park on February 21 at 1pm in a special double header dedicated to the strength, resilience, and unity of the local community as it rallies around the Medlin family.

For 11 seasons, Coach Tim Medlin led the Fire Ants Baseball team with passion, integrity, and a commitment to excellence. During those years, his wife Claudia Medlin became a beloved and constant presence, supporting not only USC Sumter Baseball but the entire Fire Ants athletic family. Tim Medlin stated about his wife, "She loves the game and she loves those kids!"

Recently, Claudia was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare and devastating neurological condition. In response, the USC Sumter community is coming together to help ease the financial burden of her medical care.

Funds collected through game admission, concessions, and additional onsite donations will be contributed directly to the Medlin family. These contributions will help offset the significant medical expenses associated with Claudia's diagnosis and care.

USC Sumter Director of Athletics, Dr. Adrienne Cataldo stated that "Tim and Claudia have been pillars of our program for years, and their impact stretches far beyond the baseball field. This game is an opportunity for all of us to stand together and support a family that has given so much to USC Sumter. We hope the community will join us in surrounding the Medlin's with the strength, generosity, and love they have always shown to USC Sumter and our community."

Head Baseball Coach Will Thompson says "The Medlin family has given everything to the Fire Ant Baseball program for over 12 years. Claudia has been like a second mother to thousands of baseball players. Now it's our turn to give back to them and show our appreciation for everything they have done".

USC Sumter encourages Fire Ant supporters, alumni, students, and community members to attend this meaningful event.
Please join us as we honor Claudia and support the Medlin family. Visit Claudia Medlin's Go Fund Me page at gofund.me/fe164b44c to donate today.
