23rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dream Walk
Sumter, SC (01/03/2023) — The community is invited to participate in the 23rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dream Walk on Monday, January 16, 2023, 8:30 am on the USC Sumter campus.
The theme of this year's event is "The Fierce Urgency of Now" and is derived from Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech. The Dream Walk is a community effort created to acknowledge and celebrate the meaning and purpose of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
The walk is a 3-mile route starting and ending at USC Sumter's Nettles Building (near the corner of University Drive and Theatre Drive). Registration for the walk will be at 8:30 am. A brief program of celebration at 9 am will include songs from the Morris College Choir and a speech from the event's Grand Marshal, Lance Newman, LPC/I, CPS, CPT, the Executive Director of the Hidden Wounds Project Josiah Restoration Ministries. The walk will immediately follow the program.
Commemorative t-shirts will be available for purchase exclusively online for a $15 donation (https://qrco.de/2023MLKDreamWalk). The Dream Walk is free, open to the public, and sponsored by Central Carolina Technical College, Morris College, and USC Sumter.
