USC Sumter Fall Sports Moved to Spring 2021

Sumter, SC (07/21/2020) — The University of South Carolina Sumter announced its fall sports season will be rescheduled in accordance with a recent decision from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Fire Ants fall sports will be moved to spring 2021.

"Our impacted sports include men's and women's soccer. Thankfully, the two teams will plan to play a full season in the spring." said Adrienne Cataldo, USC Sumter Athletic Director. "Six of our other sports compete in the spring, but the new schedule still allows for fall practice dates and scrimmages. Our new women's volleyball team, which was just added, won't begin competing until the fall of 2021 so it was not affected by this decision."

Spring sports will have some minor adjustments to competition and championship dates. For USC Sumter this includes baseball, softball, men's and women's golf, and men's and women's tennis.

"We are excited our student athletes will get a chance to compete this academic year," added Michael Sonntag, Ph.D., USC Sumter Campus Dean. "I know it was a big disappointment in the spring when we were forced to cancel the season because of the pandemic. Our student athletes work hard in the classroom and on the field. I'm glad they will get a chance to get back to the sports they love."

USC Sumter has a total of nine sports in their athletics program including baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball. For more information, schedules, rosters or interest forms for any of these sports, please visit uscfireants.com.
