Gregory's Ply-Wonder, Jacidone's It's All In My Head and Blyth's Indications on display in campus galleries
Sumter, SC (08/30/2018) — The University of South Carolina Sumter will feature George Gregory's Ply-Wonder now through October 31, 2018 in the University Gallery.
Originally from Virginia, Gregory earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture with a minor in printmaking, magna cum laude, from Virginia Commonwealth University. He received his Master of Fine Arts from The Ohio State University. Gregory resides in Columbia, SC and is currently a full-time instructor in the School of Visual Arts and Design. He has exhibited his work throughout the east coast.
"I am inspired by personal narrative from my childhood, adolescent and adult relationships," Gregory says. "Since childhood, I have embraced materials considered part of the arts and crafts world. It is a way for me to combine my childhood experiences of crafting with my grandmother and spending time with my carpenter father while he worked. The materials they used in combination reveal the tensions between low art and high art. Through their use with form, I am leveling the playing field."
A lecture by Gregory and a brief reception will be held in the University Gallery on October 26, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
The University Gallery is located in the Anderson Library on the USC Sumter Campus. The exhibit is available Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

The University of South Carolina Sumter will feature Jeanine Jacildone's It's All In My Head now through October 31, 2018 in the Upstairs Gallery.
Jacildone is a native of Elgin, Illinois and moved to South Carolina in 1987. She is retired from both Air Force and Federal Civil Service. She has had a varied career working as a heavy equipment operator, printing press operator, horse trainer, human resources manager, liaison for the United States Embassy in Helsinki, Finland, intelligence analyst, aviation resource manager and currently a certified permaculture designer. Jacildone has sketched all of her life but never had the courage to put paintbrush to canvas until she took classes with the late Rose Metz. She recently retired and has begun devoting a significant amount of time to painting, cycling and urban permaculture.
"Even as a child I had intense visions in my head that I wanted to share with others but verbal communication often escaped me," Jacildone says. "Through art I can share love, anger, joy, sadness, playfulness and intrigue. I found that images conveyed my feelings and messages far more effectively than my words. Painting and sketching and landscaping are my preferred means of artistic expression. I want to show my audience the unique and the unexpected that can be found in the common and the ordinary."
The Upstairs Gallery is located in the Williams-Brice-Edwards Administration Building on the USC Sumter Campus. The exhibit is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The University of South Carolina Sumter will feature Eileen Blythe's Indications through now October 31, 2018 in the Umpteenth Gallery.
An established painter and sculptor, Blyth is pushing herself to shift and mutate boundaries, to ensure that she is growing creatively. For many years, Blyth has alternated between two-dimensional paintings and three-dimensional sculptures, all falling under the abstract umbrella.
"It is always surprising to me to recognize the 3D lines and shadows within the confines of the 2D line and composition. There is an internal shift, a moment of playfulness that intrigues me," Blyth says. "I want to take stock so to speak. I want to put the work up and study the progression through time. 'Indications' gives me a chance to do that. It is not meant to be the purpose of the exhibition; it is just the bonus for me. I hope the viewer finds her own connections that join the visual puzzle pieces, making her own unique discoveries."
The Umpteenth Gallery is located in the Arts and Letters Building on the USC Sumter Campus. The exhibit is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
