Grant to Benefit Nursing Program at USC Sumter

Sumter, SC (10/14/2019) — The University of South Carolina Sumter was awarded a grant from the BlueCross® BlueShield® of South Carolina Foundation. With this grant, the USC Sumter campus will establish nursing simulation labs to support their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program which is offered in partnership with USC Aiken.

Designed to prepare students for a career in a variety of settings, the nursing curriculum at USC Sumter offers not only the basics in nursing procedures but also hands-on, practical clinical experiences. A BSN program graduate will also earn the necessary background for post-graduate nursing education. The nursing program is approved by the South Carolina State Board of Nursing and is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

"We are grateful to be awarded this grant from the Foundation," said Michael Sonntag, Dean of USC Sumter. "Having simulation labs available on the Sumter campus will add yet another valuable tool that our faculty can use to make sure our students are getting state-of-the-art nursing education."

The Foundation awards grants to organizations working to improve the health of South Carolina's economically vulnerable citizens. Headquartered in Columbia, the Foundation is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. Its mission is to promote and support healthier South Carolinians by supporting solutions to address gaps in health care and serving as an agent of change to support innovation and value-added public-private partnerships.
